Let’s Talk Teeth | My Sensitive Teeth Whitening Journey

I have always had issues with my teeth. I did not lose my first tooth until 4th grade, but even then they were pulled because my bottom two teeth were pushing my top two teeth back. I lost my last tooth a month shy of my freshman year of high school. I did 2 rounds of braces from 3rd grade through Freshman year of high school and wore retainers until freshman year of college (sorry Mom and Dad). And all during this time my teeth were becoming more yellow and my enamel was eroding to the point that it was becoming translucent. It, also, doesn’t help that I am a heavy coffee and tea drinker.

According to the Colgate Oral Center,

Conditions like Celiac disease can result in poor enamel development, which gives your teeth a translucent appearance as a result, as well as some pitted or banded discoloration. Enamel hypoplasia – a side effect of some genetic conditions and environmental factors, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH)– can thin the tooth surface as well. This condition affects the development of your teeth from their very early stages and causes hypomineralization (the loss of minerals from your tooth enamel) that gives your teeth a translucent appearance.

So it is safe to say that my teeth have always been my biggest insecurity. But luckily, I got the chance to change this thanks to Smile Brilliant’s Teeth Whitening System.

The Smile Brilliant system starts with creating impressions of your teeth to send in to the company to make a custom fitted whitening tray, how cool is that? I, of course, messed up my first tray because I have a mouth the size of a 10 year old but thankfully they give you extra impression material for exactly this reason. Once you get your custom trays back, it is up to you to get to the whitening.

I have extremely sensitive gums and teeth. Any whitening product I have used in the past were painful and resulted in bleeding gums, sore teeth, and a giant waste of money. I was nervous to try this system because it says to leave the whitening gel on from 45 minute to 3 HOURS!!! However, the desensitizing gel was an added comfort to begin my whitening journey. I started at 45 minutes and had absolutely no pain or discomfort and was able to work my way up to about 2 hours and 30 minutes before starting to feel some sensitivity in my teeth, but never bleeding gums!!! That is a MAJOR win.

Now let’s get to the part you’ve all been waiting for, my results. I wish a picture could, also, capture the confidence in my smile that I’ve regained. This coffee addict can’t wait to continue to use the Smile Brilliant System for upkeep on my now pearly whites.
